When Edward had first arrived in Whitby he'd been a wreck of a person. Incapable of caring for himself his younger brother had arranged for the lavish manor and the staff all with the goal of ensuring he would be taken care of. It had been a far kinder thing to do than ship him to a sanitarium, though that might have been his own preference at the time.
Edward had given up when he'd first settled in the manor, lost in a haze of grief, he'd simply wanted to cease being and had acted accordingly. That had finally changed thanks to Ruth, it was almost strange how he could wake up in the morning and not feel the crushing weight of grief forcing him to hide inside of his own mind. He wasn't entirely himself again but he was getting better with every passing day even if that left him in a bit of a conundrum on what to do. It wouldn't do for him to remain unemployed even if his family had enough money to allow it, it wasn't fitting for a man to be so indolent.
"Ruth?" He was looking for the young maid, who almost certainly shouldn't be one anymore. There was certainly some conflict of interest in her remaining as an employee though what the alternative would be he wasn't sure as he wandered about until he found her. "Oh, there you are." He smiled when he found her dusting. "I've been looking for you."
